What this cluster covers
Teaching is no longer one classroom and one career path
Education, Training and Apprenticeship includes early-childhood educators, primary and secondary teachers, TVET instructors, special-needs professionals, teacher educators, university lecturers, adult educators, counsellors, administrators, researchers and digital-learning specialists.
Teachers still need strong subject knowledge, but the profession increasingly requires pedagogy, assessment, inclusion, safeguarding, digital literacy, learner wellbeing, communication, mentoring and the ability to guide competency-based learning.
The old “any Arts combination / any Science combination” advice is too broad for 2026.
Current teacher-education programmes use programme-specific entry requirements and subject pairings. UNITE’s 2026/27 routes, for example, separately advertise Secondary Science, Secondary Arts, Secondary Vocational, Primary and Pre-Primary education. Learners should identify the exact programme and then check its current admission requirements.

Teacher education now has many progression pathways
It is true that education is a really diverse field that offers more jobs than any other profession. The liberalization of the economy in 1993 allowed investors to open up private schools to work alongside government owned schools. This opened more opportunities for people to expand their investments to education. Some of them like St.Mary's Kitende and St. Lawrence Schools began humbly but look at them now.
We all have a chance to do something in the education sector and its opportunities are unlimited. While studying Bachelor of Business Computing at the University I have found myself employed in a school environment and I am happy about it.
Thanks for highlighting the diverse and rewarding paths in education and training. It’s a reminder that careers in this field can span teaching, administration, research and community work.
