Business Management and Administration

Occupational Category 4 • Updated 2026

Business Management & Administration

This edition keeps the original career cluster but updates it for digital business, analytics, e-commerce, professional management, logistics, entrepreneurship and Uganda’s current service-led labour market.

What this cluster really covers

Every organisation needs people who can turn plans into results

Business Management and Administration is broader than “working in an office.” It includes planning, finance, administration, people management, purchasing, operations, customer growth, records, stock, projects and strategy.

The original page also listed Computer Science, Tourism, Finance/Insurance, Sales and Transport. Those fields now have their own separate career clusters in this Career Guidance framework, but business managers still work inside them. That is why this page keeps them as connected pathways rather than pretending they are all the same profession.

The old statement that “self-employment is very easy because banks have many loans” should not remain.

Entrepreneurship is an important option, but access to finance does not remove business risk. A successful enterprise still needs a real customer problem, market evidence, registration, records, cash-flow management, pricing, compliance, digital capability and disciplined execution. URSB’s current business-registration system also makes formalisation and business search increasingly digital.

2026 digital refresh: the original Business Management and Administration content has been preserved but reorganised. Computer Science, Finance, Tourism, Marketing/Sales and Transport/Logistics are now clearly recognised as connected but separate clusters in the wider Career Guidance framework. Programme names, professional qualification rules, admissions and labour-market conditions can change, so learners should verify current information with the relevant institution, regulator or professional body.
